Havana is a town of approximately 3,600 residents, located in central Illinois on the banks of the Illinois River. It is the county seat for Mason County. Havana is near the Chatauqua National Wildlife Refuge, which is 4,500 acres of wildlife habitat that is home to large concentrations of wild ducks. The Refuge offers boundless opportunities for fishing, hunting and birdwatching. Other recreational activities near Havana include golf, tennis, auto racing, hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Riverfront Park in Havana includes three blocks of river frontage on the Illinois River, along with 3 boat launches, picnic shelters, hiking, camping and a playground. Many other recreational areas are near Havana, including Sand Ridge State Forest and Jake Wolf Memorial Hatchery, Spring Lake State Park and Anderson Lake. The town of Havana hosts several special events throughout the year, as well. The 4th of July Heritage Days are held along Riverfront Park, the Watermelon Festival is held the first Saturday in August, Oktoberfest the first weekend after Labor Day and a Christmas Parade the fourth Saturday in November. A special Holiday Tour of Homes in Havana is also held the second Sunday of December.

Havana Weather & Climate

Central Illinois , near the Illinois River, lies in the humid continental zone. The climate has four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and summers are warm and humid. Generally, more than half of the annual rainfall occurs during the growing season, from May to October. Heavy snowfall is common in winter and occasionally blizzards can occur. Summer, on the other hand, is hot and humid, with July being the hottest month of the year. Violent thunderstorms are possible March through June, sometimes producing hail and strong winds. The state of Illinois is also vulnerable to tornadoes. Many people think autumn is the most pleasant time of the year in Illinois, with sunny, mild days and cool nights, perfect for viewing the colorful fall foliage.
